CORE 9 plus From China With Love
ASD, TheArts and Disability Network at UCLA presents: CORE 9 - Defining Ourselves

A pre-showing of the first American exhibition by Chinese artists with disabilities, FROM CHINA, WITH LOVE will run concurrently with CORE 9.

CORE 9: Defining Ourselves had its opening reception on September 7th, 2013 at the EXPO Arts Center in the Bixby Knolls neighborhood in Long Beach, CA. CORE had over 125 submissions from all over the world this year, and our curator, Carlos Arredondo, had the difficult job of narrowing it down to 84 pieces that would be in the show, including a film entry, “Remember When,” which was playing on a loop in the small theater room during Saturday’s event. At the opening reception, the first, second and third place winners were announced. In third was a TAP II collaboration for their acrylic painting titled “Silver Room;” in second was Isabel Vartanian for her piece, "Colorful Fish" and in first was Rachel Malone for her piece "After the Rain Comes the Rainbow."  Shortly after this announcement, three groups of performers showcased their talent: Sam Smith, The Creative Identity String Ensemble & Pride Singers, and Lia Limón Martirosyan and David Waller. Chet Cooper from ABILITY Magazine also gave a speech about the featured exhibit FROM CHINA WITH LOVE. Approximately 300 plus people attended the opening and over 1,000 people came the day before for the monthly art walk, First Fridays at Bixby Knolls. The show will run until September 21st, 2013 and will be visited by approximately 3,000 people.
